"Over the years,
we have sold millions of bolts of wallpaper and border.
Many innovations have come along but one thing has never changed - the
customer always comes first. Our mission is simple: to see
that our customer is totally satisfied, and, when possible, to exceed our
customer's expectations."

Our Story
Our wallcovering business
started in 1971, when we
began importing and distributing natural wallcoverings from Japan and Korea,
under the trade name of Marco Polo Co. The varieties of wallcovering that we handled
included grasscloths, silk slubs, jute cloths, and rush cloths, among
others. We bound samples of our wallcovering together into a rather
modest collection and
distributed our sample books to designers and stores. Eventually, some of our
local accounts requested other varieties of wallcovering, so we added
collections from other suppliers, and, in 1976, opened our retail store,
Discount Wallcovering.
When we started selling retail wallcovering, the idea of offering discount wallpaper
appealed to us, because we didn't have a lot of expertise to
offer our customers, but we thought that we certainly could offer our customers
a lot of value, with discount wallpaper prices. By the early 1980s, several brands of wallpaper
were offered to us as "in stock" patterns;
some of our early stocking brands included Schumacher, Sanitas,
Seabrook and Imperial patterns.
Today, we stock
many patterns, which is a convenience for our customers,
providing them with a source of discount wallpaper with very low prices.
A common misconception about our
discount wallpaper, is that "discount" simply means "discontinued".
We add new patterns, from
recently released
collections, all the time. Another misconception about our discount
wallpaper, is that "discount" indicates "2nd quality". We buy only 1st quality wallpaper. This means that our customers get wallcovering that is
guaranteed to be free of defects.

Did you know: Border didn't always come in spools? |
|
| |
Initially, wallpaper border
was not offered as a separate wallcovering, and to obtain wallpaper border
our customers had to cut a wallpaper border from a striped wallcovering
pattern. If a striped wallcovering pattern could be hung horizontally,
and not look like it was lying sideways, then that pattern was a potential
wallpaper border. By the early 1980s, however, manufacturers began to
include wallpaper borders in their collections, and eventually, wallpaper
border was offered as "in stock" and we began to stock discount wallpaper
border, as well as, discount wallpaper. Today, we stock many wallpaper
border patterns in our store, depicting a wide variety of subjects, in many
different styles.

Over the Years
| |
Some of the artwork
from yesteryear has endured, such as florals, damasks, and geometric
designs; toiles, which are classic, are as popular as ever. Because of
advances in technology, there are many new faux finishes which include sponging,
ragging, marbling and texturing - which provide a huge economic
benefit, when compared to the $2 to $25 per square foot cost of actual faux finishing.
Other popular looks include stone, brick, script, distressed, and
weathered walls, all of which, can be quite realistic in appearance.
Many of our
current popular sidewalls are a backdrop for the huge selection of
wallcovering subjects found in coordinating, artful, wallpaper borders. Sculptured
wallpaper border, with the use of laser technology, has become fairly
commonplace. The variety of subject matter found in wallpaper border
is extensive: Superheroes, sports borders, cowboys, motorcycles, wild
animals, domestic animals, palm trees, vintage movie stars, and on and on.
Moreover, many wallpaper borders are based on popular published art so that
you can decorate your walls with selections from art galleries, and can accessorize your rooms with
licensed coordinates.
Plain finished wallpaper has
disappeared in favor of vinyl coated, acrylic coated, and often, solid vinyl, wallcovering.
The trend in wallpaper has been toward easier installation,
easier maintenance, and easier replacement. Much of our discount
wallpaper is now pre-pasted, and, more and more patterns are being offered
in a consumer friendly, synthetic fiber type of wallcovering that is
non-shrinking, easy to install, and easily strippable. The advantages include: it's washable, breathable; it resists mold and
mildew; it's environmentally friendly; has no bubbles; no vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive
required; no sizing, or prepping, and no booking is required; it's completely strippable;
and it's Class
"A" fire rated.
Look for "strippable"
in the product details
of our wallpaper, borders, and murals.
Today, we offer discount wallpaper and wallpaper border at extremely
competitive prices, and we offer the expertise that we have gained through
our long association with wallcovering. Our goal is to offer our
customers the best prices, the best products, and the best service
available.
